Planning Inspectorate upholds Inland Homes appeal.

Following an Inquiry which was held in early December 2021 by the Planning Inspectorate, planning permission has been granted for the demolition of the former Masonic Hall and redevelopment of the site.

The decision, issued by the Planning Inspectorate on 17 January 2022, grants developer Inland Homes permission to provide “206 dwellings together with car and cycle parking, hard and soft landscaping and other associated works at The Old Telephone Exchange, Masonic Hall and adjoining Land, Staines-upon-Thames.”

In 2020, following a lengthy debate by the Spelthorne Borough Planning Committee, the application was refused because of height concerns and inadequate car parking and the effect the latter would have on the amenity of existing residential dwellings. However, the applicant appealed against the refusal to the Secretary of State and a Public Inquiry took place from the 30 November – 9 December 2021. The Local Planning authority was represented by an independent planning advisor and Legal Counsel.
