The new plans for the Majestic House site show 260 flats in another huge 10 storey concrete block taking up much of the site, on the Fairfield Avenue corner where once we had a Post Office, plus an office block in the western side behind the ex-Garibaldi corner. We have objected on grounds of appearance, lack of amenity & play space, inadequate parking, air quality, affordable housing levels etc; but warn that the council will find it hard to refuse as this is a variation of an already-agreed scheme.
There will be a Premier Inn with shops below it on the corner of High Street and Mustard Mill Road, where the animal posters are. It is mercifully only 4 storeys on the High Street, 5 on Mustard Mill Road, a rather brutal brick design with an interesting glass section on the corner.
Halfords erected large signs on their building in the complex at 96-104 Church Street, and anticipated planning permission by illuminating them in the evening. Many neighbours objected to this garish display, and the evening illumination was refused, and has stopped.
SBC objected to Surrey’s proposal for a single fire station off the roundabout at the bottom of Kingston Road, but only on flooding grounds, which will be resolved. They conceded Surrey’s basic premise that there will be only one fire station in Spelthorne.
