Work has now begun on a hotel and restaurant with ground floor shops at 90-104 High Street, ex-Tatters corner, and on the large Majestic site, where the structure now appearing is stated to be a marketing suite for the development, of 260 flats and an office block.
The path up the east side of the Bridge Street car park will disappear in the new development, and the storage spaces under the bridge arches will have new doors on the downstream side. During construction the pavement in front of the site, and hence the pavement on the upstream side of the bridge, will be closed.
Aberdeen Asset Management’s plans for the Centrica site at 17-51 London Road are much too large, as usual, with 253 flats and 13K sq.m. of offices. At least the flats are behind the offices, giving them some shelter from noise and pollution, and the open space between the blocks is somewhat larger than in the Bridge Street and Majestic schemes. We have objected to the lack of affordable housing in all these large developments.
Inland Homes have bought the Exchange nightclub building in Thames Street, presumably to build flats on it. The proposal to expand the Elmsleigh Centre south into the bus station seems to have been shelved and we understand that the most unwelcome idea of building on the Riverside car park has definitely been abandoned.
The Ex-Service club wish to replace their ugly building at 6 Laleham Road with 14 flats and a smaller clubhouse, making a large bulky building filling the site with the loss of two good trees.
Bridge House, in Bridge Street has made an application to add one additional floor level to the existing building and change use from office to residential, we have made comments and this will be determined at the Planning Committee on Wednesday 14 December 2016.
Provident House in Bridge Street, and Venture House in London Road, will all be converted from offices to flats.
STS is supporting neighbours objecting to a proposed hot food takeaway at 81 Garrick Close. This was refused by Spelthorne BC but the developer has appealed.
