Sensations Leisure Limited – Licence Application 19/00637/LAPRE
Staines Town Society request that the application ref 19/00637/LAPRE for a Premises Licence, Unit 5 , Thames Edge, Clarence Street, Staines TW18 4BU be rejected.
The proposed public opening hours of Monday to Thursday 10.30 – 23.00, and Saturday, Sunday 10.30- 1.00 will be extended by 30 minutes plus for drinking-up time and exit of premises by customers – essentially meaning a quiet time of midnight during the week and 2pm at weekends. We have major concerns regarding extended public opening hours until 5.30am on New Years Eve and other bank holidays.
Despite the assurance that windows and doors will be closed and customers will be asked to leave quietly, it is expected that the residents in Thames Court, Colnebridge Close, Colne Lodge, The Hythe and beyond will be disturbed throughout late evenings and early mornings as customers meet outside to smoke, converse and shout loudly and drunkenly leave the venue.
Such extended disturbance is already in evidence from customers at the Slug and Lettuce. Permitting another music and drinking licence in close proximity to the Slug and Lettuce will increase the volumes of customers using this area , exacerbating the noise and disturbance to local residents. There will also be the added risk of fights between drunken customers of the two premises, which happened when both were open before.
As we have previously noted when responding to licensing applications at this venue, Spelthorne BC has previously protected its residents from noise and disturbance. At the “Toad at the Town Hall” licensing hearing some years ago, Environmental Health laid down the basic principle that neighbours should be undisturbed with their windows open. In January 2010, as a result of resident complaints and police issues, the conclusion of a licensing sub-committee was that “the premises shall not be used as a night club, disco or similar late-night operation involving public dancing and entertainment”
We request that this consideration be upheld and this Premises license application rejected.
