As existing leases on retail premises come up for renewal, we are to see a few changes in the town centre – we may be expecting several new eateries – Wagamama, GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen), TGI Friday (by the cinema), Pret A Manger, Costa (in the soon to be opened Next) plus a new Bureau de Change inside the Elmsleigh Centre. You may have noticed that Burton, Dorothy Perkin, the Belgian Chocolate shop & Mamas & Papas have vacated their premises.
We also applaud the application for the conversion of empty offices above the shops in the High Street at The Courtyard (entrance almost opposite M&S); where it is proposed to convert to residential accommodation. The current office premises have a residential appearance and their conversion would seem highly appropriate; better to use existing buildings rather than lose green or open space.
