Proposal for an internally illuminated sign.
The Staines Town Society objects to the proposal for this grossly oversized and illuminated sign in the Conservation Area and its position on this elevation of Strata House. The frontage of Strata House lies, as its address suggests, on Bridge Street and an un-illuminated sign would be more suited to that side of Strata House.
Both the existing and the proposed replacement sign, are totally out of keeping with the Listed Staines Bridge, particularly as it is highly visible at this gateway to Staines.
Additionally, if the Bridge Street Car Park site is developed an illuminated sign would be extremely unpleasant at night for any flats (shining through the windows all night) on that side of the building. Illumination is wholly inappropriate and if permission is granted, it will be yet a further degradation of the Staines Conservation Area.
