The Society’s chairman and chief inspiration over many years has moved to Suffolk to live near her daughter. We remember Claudette’s dedication, drive, and fund of information in many campaigns for the benefit of our community, from getting the Town Hall and the Birch Green waterworks Listed, and establishing ‘no go’ areas protected from gravel digging, to restoring the London Stone and initiating the flower basket scheme that led to Spelthorne in Bloom, plus improvements in many smaller issues. We wish Claudette and her cat Mimi a happy retirement, and hope to see her back for a small celebration in the spring.
