ENGLISH HERITAGE SURVEY OF GRADE II LISTED BUILDINGS
English Heritage is still keen to recruit local volunteers to check and report on the condition of Grade II Listed buildings, but the survey has been delayed until next spring. They will supply instructions, checklists etc, and the reports can be electronic or on paper. English Heritage now only have resources to monitor Grade I and Grade II* directly, and rely on volunteers to observe the rest. Grade II buildings in Staines include the Town Hall and old fire station, the Oast House, Duncroft, the Penton Hook lock-keeper’s house, and the sadly deteriorating terrace at 25-27 Clarence Street. Please let the secretary know if you would like to volunteer.

The steakhouse at The Town Hall seems to have closed. The Blue Anchor did become a House in Multiple Occupancy, consisting of 13 bedsits, and a new pub called Tiger Bills is planned on the ground floor.
We have objected to an application to squeeze a block of 5 small flats into the space behind the listed ex-Staines West Station building (Orkid).
Although SBC have stated their objection to the closure of our fire stations, they have sold to Surrey CC the site required for the replacement single fire station. This site, next to the Fordbridge roundabout, is in the Green Belt, and therefore SBC Planning Committee could refuse planning permission for a new building there. Will they do so?
We have acquired a list of the owners of Heathrow Airport Ltd. They are mostly foreign governments. None are British.
The big incinerator at Colnbrook will have to be moved if a third runway is built. Heathrow Airport Ltd stated that it would move to a site in the very north-east corner of Spelthorne, off Long Lane in Stanwell; but later said it would go elsewhere.
