Bellway Homes have been selected as Spelthorne Borough Council’s preferred developer for the Bridge Street Car Park site.

The details of their initial proposals (prior to making a Planning Application) are available to view at www.bellwaybridgestreet.co.uk

The Town Society and many other local residents are extremely concerned about the gargantuan size of this proposed development for 210 flats plus a river front restaurant(s) and totally opposed to the unacceptable height of the proposed buildings. The smallest block, at the rear of the proposed development stands at a colossal 7 storeys, which would dwarf any other building in Staines! Worse still, the highest and most prominent of the proposed buildings is an audacious 12 storey tower block, on the corner of Bridge Street. As a comparison, Thames Edge Court, the existing building in Clarence Street, adjacent to Staines Bridge,  is only 4/5 storeys high. If permission is granted, these ghastly tower blocks would be unacceptably tall and would neither fit in with nor complement the existing small scale and size of Staines town.

Please take a look at this proposal (using the link above), this site is the most prominent and important visual point at the gateway into our town and lies adjacent to the Rennie designed Listed Staines Bridge. Bellway Homes and Spelthorne Borough Council need to be advised, by as many of us as possible, how much we dislike and are totally opposed to the inappropriate size and scale of this scheme.
