Spelthorne BC are consulting until 25 June on the new Local Plan, and in particular on where to put the 590 new houses a year which the Government insists are crammed into the borough. All the options are dreadful: a) high-rise high density building in all the towns, b) building on Green Belt sites, by compulsory purchase if necessary, c) concentrating the damage in Staines to protect the rest of the borough. The consultation is online, so please look at www.spelthorne.gov.uk/localplan to find the consultation document and instructions on how to respond.
Many of the Plan documents have already been assembled and may be seen on the SBC website under Planning Publications. We attended a meeting on the assessment of Green Belt sites, and were dismayed to learn that the open space at Leacroft may lose its Green Belt status.
We have been assisting the Friends of the Hythe to object to a plan for a large ugly factory-style office building at the far end of The Hythe, which is a narrow road with 26 listed buildings, mostly of modest size. Fortunately the application was withdrawn, but a second application, better but still obtrusive, is under consideration by Runnymede BC.
